FAQ about Library

The resources in our libraries are classified according to their subjects on the open shelves. The first letter of the location number refers to the main subject. The next letter indicates the sub-group of the main subject, and the following numeric group indicates the last sub-group of the main subject. The following group is designated by the surname of the author. The last part indicates the publishing year of the book. For example, Roger FORBES / Solid State Physics-2000 QC 176 F34 1999.

Academic and administrative personnel and students of Beykent University may either use the books and resources inside the library or borrow them. 

Patrons must submit their Beykent University ID Cards while borrowing books. Those without an ID Card will not be lent books. No borrowing with ID Cards belonging to someone else. 

Reference resources (encyclopaedias, dictionaries, rare works, etc.), the latest editions of newspapers, journals and magazines, and the theses will not be borrowed. 

Reserve books can only be used inside the library. 

Borrowed resources should be returned on time. Late fees shall be charged for the overdue books. 

Patrons who have overdue books cannot borrow or renew books without returning the ones overdue or paying the late fees. 

Academic and administrative staff can renew their books on the library’s website. 

Students can only renew their books in the library by submitting their Library Cards and the borrowed books. 

If it deems necessary, the Office of Library Services may recall a borrowed book from a borrower.

All the borrowed resources shall be returned on time.

Members of Beykent University can access the electronic resources our libraries have subscribed to on the campuses of Beykent University via the IP-connectivity access network granted to our university. During this access, it is compulsory to comply with the Licence Agreement between the manufacturer and the library.

Online catalogue search can be made clicking on the “Catalogue Search” link on the library website. The library’s collection can be searched for the author, name of the book, subject, name of the series, etc. 

Patrons should first search for the desired items (books, journals, etc.) on the library programme. They can check if the library has the item they search for, and if they can borrow the item before it is placed on the shelf. If the item has been borrowed, they can see the return date on the digital platform. They can place a hold before the publication is returned to the library. They can also access the volume/copy information pertaining to the publications.

Patrons can access Internet in the library. Since there is wireless connection available in the library, the patrons can also access Internet easily on their own laptops. 

The books determined upon the request of the faculties or the decision of the Library Administration are deposited in the Reserved collection. These books are lent for a few hours. These books can also be photocopied. 

The latest issues of the serial publications are stored in the Serial Publications stack. The older bound issues can be borrowed. The latest issues of the serial publications cannot be borrowed. They can only be used in the library.

Patrons may not:

- Speak on their mobile phones in the library.

- Bring foods or beverages into the library.

- Smoke, talk loudly or make noise in the library.

- Photocopy all parts of an item.

- Leave bags, backpacks or any other personal belongings unattended in the library. 

- Use the tools and instruments belonging to the library staff without prior permission, or change the places of electronic devices and equipment, and

- Take the items out of the library before the borrowing procedures are completed.

 

Library staff may:

- Search anyone when the alarm rings since the resources are protected electronically.

- Communicate and refer the unauthorised borrowers or those who damage the items to the Rectorate which takes legal action against them, and

- If deemed necessary, check all kinds of bags and personal belongings.

Patrons must:

- Have their ID Cards with them and submit their cards when asked to, and

- Comply with the opening and closing times of the library, and leave the library before the closing time.

Library staff must:

- Carry out the return procedures of the resources.

Academic staff:

A maximum of 30 days for 10 books and a maximum of 3 days for 2 other resources (CD, DVD, etc.)

PhD/Master’s Degree students:

A maximum of 30 days for 10 books and a maximum of 3 days for 2 other resources (CD, DVD, etc.)

Undergraduate/Associate Degree Students/Administrative Staff:

A maximum of 15 days for 5 books and a maximum of 3 days for 2 other resources (CD, DVD, etc.) 

Patrons who damage, both inside and outside the library, the books, journals and magazines shall be charged with a fine amounting to 50% of the current price of the items in question.

- In case of loss of books in a foreign language, a fine amounting to 50% of the current price of the book shall be charged. 

- In case of loss of Reserve books, a fine amounting to 100% of the current price of the book shall be charged. 

- In case of loss of Rare Works, a fine double the current price of the lost work shall be charged. 

- In case of loss of Serial Publication journals/magazines, the price of each issue in the particular volume lost shall be determined to calculate the volume price, and the fine shall be double this volume price. 

- In case of loss of out-of-print foreign books, the fine shall be TL 200.

- In case of loss of out-of-print Turkish books, the fine shall be TL 150.

- A notice / e-mail shall be sent for the overdue items. If not returned within 15 days, the item is considered lost and this is communicated to the Rectorate for legal action. 

- All the fines specified in the Regulations shall be determined and enforced following and depending on the offer of the Library Commission and the approval of the Rectorate. 

Patrons are obliged to use the borrowed items well and return them on the date specified. Library fines, which are to be determined by the library staff and approved by the Rectorate, shall be charged for the items not returned or renewed on time.

Books and Serial Publications have unique international serial numbers assigned to them. ISBN (International Serial Number of Books) is for books while ISSN (International Serial Number of Serials) is for serial publications.

Patrons may communicate the problems related to the library to the library staff and seek their counsel.

Newspapers, reference resources, theses, Reserved books and the latest issues of Serial Publications cannot be borrowed. Serial Publications can be borrowed after one year when all the issues are collected in one volume. Issues of Serial Publications can be photocopied throughout the year.
