What is a Diploma Supplement?

A Diploma Supplement (DS) is a document accompanying a higher education diploma intended to consolidate international transparency which is granted in order to enable the acquired skills and competencies as well as the documents on which they are stated, i.e. diplomas, qualifications, and certificates, to be recognised both academically and professionally. It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies abroad pursued and successfully completed by the holder of the original qualification to which the supplement is attached. It is free from any value-judgements, and equivalence or recognition statements. It is a flexible and non-prescriptive tool which has been shown to save time, money and labour. It is designed to be adaptable to the local requirements.

Diploma Supplements are issued by international institutions based on a template prepared collaboratively by the European Commission, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO. Having been tested and improved by these three bodies, this template has been issued in all the official languages of the European Union. Diploma Supplements have been provided to our graduates since the Academic Year 2005 – 2006 in English which is the most common European language.
