We finished second in Basketball in Europe!

Beykent University’ Men’s Basketball Team finished second in the European Universities Basketball Championship.

Meeting their Italian rival, University of Bologna, in the final of the championship which took place in Poland this year, Beykenters finished second again, as in the last year, in the European Championship.

The Team qualified out of the group successfully.

Proudly representing our country in the championship, our Men’s Basketball Team met the University of Rouen, representing France, in the first match of its group.

Being defeated 64-75 in the match, the Misters defeated Gdansk University of Technology, Poland 100-58.

The Misters defeated their final rival, the University of Wurzburg, 86-58, and reached the quarter-final.

They played in the quarter-final and semi-final easily.

Defeating their rival 91-78, the Misters eliminated the College of Management representing Israel. They beat their Lithuanian rival Vytautas Magnus University 84-73 in the semi-final.

In the final, they played against Vytautas Magnus University again.

The Misters played against the University of Bologna representing Italy in the finals as in the last year.

We took the lead until the last period.

In the last period of the final, the Misters were taking the lead after they broke the draw with a score of 27-23, but they could not help the rivals’ closing the gap to 44-43. The Misters started to play in the third period faster, and took the lead with a score of 58-63, but they were behind their rival in the last period.

When the last buzzer went off, our Team was behind its rival with a score of 90-78, and the Team finished second in the European Championship.

The award for the best player in the Tournament went to Valerio Cucci, the top scorer of the final match with a 27 points. The second top scorer of the final match was our team player Gani Erdi Gülaslan, with 24 points.

Two of our players were ranked in the top five list of the most valuable players.

Our players İsmail Cem Ulusoy, and Tayfun Erülkü were ranked in the top five list of the best players in the Tournament.

Proudly representing our country in Europe for two years, our Men’s Basketball Team, showed again this year that its success is not a coincidence.

We congratulate heart and soul all of our players and technical team who did not give up until the last minute in European Championship.
