Date: 16 May 2025 Technology Transfer Office organised World Intellectual Property Day and Patent Week event The event organised by the Directorate of Technology Transfer Office Application and Research Centre within the scope of World Intellectual Property Day and Patent Week was held on 6 May 2025 at Taksim Campus. The programme began with the theatre play Little Virgin, written by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazım Sarıkaya, directed by Res. Asst. Derya Özsoy, and performed by students from the Department of Acting at Istanbul Beykent University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. Following the performance, Prof. Dr. Kazım Sarı, Vice-Rector of Istanbul Beykent University, and Dr. Ali Yüksel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Adres Patent, delivered the event’s opening speeches. Both speakers highlighted the significance of intellectual and industrial property rights in academia and industry alike. Following the speeches, the patent certificate for the invention titled Hybrid Simulation System in Teaching Nasogastric Tube Application Skill, developed at Istanbul Beykent University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, was presented to Prof. Dr. Kazım Sarı by Dr. Ali Yüksel. The event continued with the Copyright Talk, where sectoral and academic experiences on copyrights were shared. Asst. Prof. Dr. Deniz Topcu, Vice Dean of Istanbul Beykent University Faculty of Law, along with Dr. Ali Yüksel and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazım Sarıkaya, shared with the participants the legal framework of copyright, its practical implications, and its significance for the creative industries. Following the copyright session, the event continued with a panel titled From Idea to Product: The Transformative Power of Patents on the Economy. The panel was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Metin Güven, TTO Manager at Istanbul Beykent University. The speakers included Attorney Ali Çavuşoğlu, Chairman of the Türkiye Patent Movement Platform; Hasan Ayatürk, General Manager of RePG Energy Systems; and Türkan Edege, R&D and Intellectual Property Leader at Ford Otosan. The panel addressed the process of transforming ideas into products, the importance of patents for both industry and academia, and their role within the broader economic context, with input from sector representatives. Intellectual and industrial property rights and patent processes, approached differently in academic and industry contexts, were practically explored in the patent workshop titled ‘Patenthon’. Derya Kılıç, Deputy General Manager of Adres Patent and Member of the Board of Directors of the Türkiye Patent Movement Platform, and Salih Keskin, Innovation Strategist and Board Member of the Patent Movement Association, served as the workshop’s programme managers, giving participants the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. During the workshop, teams composed of students from the Departments of Industrial Design and Software Engineering at Istanbul Beykent University’s Faculty of Engineering and Architecture developed innovative ideas under the guidance and mentorship of the programme managers, gaining hands-on experience in transforming these ideas into patents.
