Date: 14 May 2025 Istanbul Beykent University’s proactive approach to combating disinformation Istanbul Beykent University hosted a significant event aimed at combating information pollution, one of the most pressing threats of the digital age. The talk titled Combating Disinformation and Information Reliability, held on 13 May 2025, aimed to raise awareness of this critical issue. The talk titled Combating Disinformation and Information Reliability, organised by the Istanbul Beykent University Anti-Disinformation Club, was held on Tuesday, 13 May 2025, at Hall Z-13 on the Hadımköy Campus. The interview, featuring İhsan Çetin and Onur Özer, Anti-Disinformation Specialists from the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Yetkin Aker, Faculty Member at Istanbul Beykent University and the club’s advisor, was followed with great interest. The interview, attended by a large number of university students, academics, and club members, provided a productive and interactive atmosphere. The event featured an in-depth discussion on the definition of disinformation, its types, methods of dissemination, and strategies for combating it. The session provided participants with insights into media literacy, the ability to access reliable information, and the significance of cultivating critical thinking skills. Attention was drawn to the Global Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event also emphasised key issues within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Themes such as quality education, peace and justice, the importance of strong institutions, and global partnerships for sustainable development were brought to the forefront. During the speeches, the critical role of access to accurate information and the necessity of fostering inter-institutional cooperation were emphasised. This event helped raise social awareness and marked an important step towards achieving the Global Goals. The participation and insights shared by Melek Nur Karaca, President of the Pamukkale University Anti-Disinformation Club, as a guest within the scope of the UNIDES Project, approved by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, greatly enriched the event Istanbul Beykent University has taken a leading role in promoting academic sensitivity. The event once again highlighted Istanbul Beykent University’s commitment to current social issues and the mission of student clubs to nurture socially conscious individuals.
