"TCG has taken its place in the military history"

TCG Anadolu, the world's first unmanned aerial vehicle (UCAV) ship, opens to visitors in Sarayburnu, where it is anchored. "TCG Anadolu has significantly improved Turkey's capabilities, especially in the seas," said Dr. Kemal Olçar, international relations specialist, adding, "The ship has taken its place in the military history as a force multiplier in national, regional and NATO activities of the Turkish Army."

TCG Anadolu is opening to visitors today. Giving information about the ship, International Relations Specialist Dr. Kemal Olçar, said in his speech, "The ship, which is classified as LHD (Landing Helicopter Dock) class, provides protection against threats that may come from the air and the sea with the weapon systems it carries on board, allows tanks and armoured vehicles to land safely with the existing dock system. Thanks to the runway on it, a sufficient number of helicopters of various classes can be parked; and with the launch platform located in the front part, it creates an opportunity for UAVs, UCAVs and Lockheed Martin F-35B type combat aircrafts with vertical landing/take-off capabilities to land/take off. It can carry a unit of up to 1 BTF (700 people) of the Turkish Land Forces that can land with all its equipment and materials, and it hosts a military hospital with a capacity of at least thirty beds, an operating room, dental treatment units, intensive care and infection isolation/control rooms." 

"THE NUMBER OF SUCH TYPE OF SHIPS IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE"

Stating that TCG Anadolu can be used in expeditionary missions as well as evacuation, sanitary support and sheltering in times of peace and crisis, Dr. Kemal Olçar from Istanbul Beykent University said, "During the upcoming years, it is expected that the number of such ships will increase, a new type of fully equipped aircraft carrier will be built, and new features will be added to TCG Anadolu that will allow manned/unmanned aerial built produced with national resources to land and take off. In summary, releasing this capable ship to the domestic/foreign public will reassure our friends. Apart from this, our people will be able to appreciate which countries may be concerned."
