Prof. Hamdi Ünal’s Exhibition of Carpets, Rugs, and Weavings in Berlin

Deputy Dean of our University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, Prof. Hamdi Ünal’s Exhibition of Turkish Carpets, Rugs, and Weavings was presented to art lovers of Berlin in Messedamm.

In Prof. Ünal’s works, which combine the traditional values with the contemporary values, Turkish artworks of carpets, rugs, and weavings, each of which has its own richness, are presented to the visitors between 6th and 10th November.

‘‘Constant innovation is a must’’

Expressing that design-oriented carpet, rug, and weaving sector needs to go through a change and develop, Prof. Ünal said, ‘‘500 visitors, including domestic and foreign ones, came to see our exhibitions of last year at Art Galleries in Messe Berlin. We try to tell all the participants that they should constantly improve themselves, and success is only possible through new research and practices.’’

Prof. Ünal continued to his words:

‘‘Yarns obtained by dying of natural angora wool which is only peculiar to Ankara and nearby districts with natural dyes, make up an important factor in these works. Using such a peculiar material by weaving tapestry made a huge impact, and nearly a million art lovers’ impressions throughout these 5 days sparked a hopeful start for prospective works.
