Double Major / Minor
These opportunities enable successful undergraduate students to receive a second diploma in another degree programme or a graduate certificate of minor in another subject area they are interested in on the condition that they meet certain criteria. Associate
Degree students may also benefit from these opportunities to receive a second Associate Degree diploma in another degree programme on the condition that they meet certain criteria.
Double Major / Minor procedures are carried out according to “Regulations on the Principles of Transfer, Double Major and Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer between Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Programmes” which came
into effect after publication in the Turkish Official Gazette on 24 April 2010, “Beykent University’s Regulations on Education in Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Programmes”, and “Beykent University’s Double
Major / Minor Directive”.
- Undergraduate Degree Programmes which are available for Double Major are listed in the Appendix 1 of Beykent University’s Double Major / Minor Directive while the available Associate Degree Programmes are listed in Appendix 2 of
the same Directive.
- Students who study a programme whose medium of instruction is Turkish and wish to do a Double Major or Minor in a programme whose medium of instruction is English are required to pass Beykent University’s Placement Test, prove they
have passed a national or international English proficiency exam listed in “Beykent University’s School of Foreign Languages Education and Examination Directive”, or attend the English Preparatory Programme for one
year and complete it successfully.
- International students have to prove that their Turkish language level is sufficient if they wish to do a Double Major or Minor in the departments of which medium of instruction is Turkish.
- Those who apply for the departments which require candidates to pass the Special Talent Exam must sit for and pass the Special Talent Exam to be administered by the relevant departments. If the number of applicants exceeds the quota determined
by the Senate, GPA is taken into consideration. If the GPAs of two applicants are equal, the university placement score of the Double Major / Minor programme is taken into consideration, and the one with the higher score is selected.
Final decision about the applications is given by the Administrative Board of the Faculty/School.
- It is not possible to do more than one Double Major at the same time. However, students can do a Double Major and a Minor simultaneously.
- It is not possible to register for a Double Major and a Minor in the same programme.
- It is not possible to do a Double Major or Minor in two programmes of the same department whose mediums of instruction are different.
- Formal Education programmes are open to Double Major / Minor only between themselves.
- Evening Education programmes are open to Double Major / Minor only between themselves.
- Distance Education programmes are open to Double Major / Minor only between themselves.
- Departments admitting students through Special Talent Exam are open to Double Major / Minor only between themselves.
- Associate Degree students are not eligible to do a Minor.
- Undergraduate students can apply for a Double Major in the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest and the 5th semester at the latest while Associate Degree students can apply in the beginning of the 2nd semester at the earliest
and the 3rd semester at the latest.
- Students must pass all the compulsory courses of their majors, have at least a GPA of 3.50, and be placed among the top 20% of the students of the year in their programmes.
- Those who have a GPA of at least 3.50/4.00 but are not among the top 20% of the students in their programmes may apply for a Double Major on the condition that their university placement score is equal to or higher than the minimum required
score of the Double Major programme. During the selection process, those who are among the top 20% of the students and have the highest GPAs will be given priority.
- Students can apply in the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest and the 6th semester at the latest.
- Students must pass all the compulsory courses of their undergraduate programmes and have a GPA of at least 3.00/4.00.
